things you love

I still get so excited when I walk into this little shop in Hastings-on-Hudson.  Maisonette opened in 2012 or thereabouts and I created this illustration for Maria which hangs in her shop. It is brimming with things I love and want.  Maria, the shoppe keeper has a slogan, “Surround yourself with the things you love.”  She stands by this rule, hard and fast and always says, there are no rules as long as it brings you joy.  I have to admit that every item I have from maisonette brings me joy.  Do you have a hard and fast rule for living with love?  Maybe there is something you are living with that needs more love.  Pass on items that are draining you and replace them in time with the one’s that bring you joy.

Friends and I found a shop in Cloverdale, CA called simply, BOLT. Filled with all kinds of fabric and sewing paraphernalia, as well as other unique one-of-a-kind items, we were enchanted.

When she opened the shop, her older brother told her not to buy any furniture. He either had spare pieces (like a beautiful carved armoire) or built things for her (shelving for all the fabric, and long tables for cutting and sewing classes). He even had an incredible collection of copper kettles. This lady truly “spreads the love” because they offer sewing classes to young girls on Saturday morning. She also displays artwork from local artists.

    I want to go back!

      Oh Gail,
I can just picture that shop! My daughter will be going to College in CA and I will put that on my list of places to visit. I love little places that are full of one-of-a kinds and stories galore.
Thanks for popping in. So nice to hear from you.
I am always delighted by your comments and travels.

Don’t know if you’ll fly into Los Angeles, Sacramento, or Oakland-San Francisco but if you’re able to travel into northern California, there’s the Napa Valley wine country, Anderson Valley (pinot noir), St. Helena, Rutherford, Calistoga. Venture up my way and a must-see is the little coastal town of Mendocino, hiking trails in Fort Bragg, or ocean kayaking at Little River-VanDamme. Even farther north is the magnificent Avenue of the Giants, incredible
picnics to be had under those glorious redwood trees.

Have I whet your appetite? 😉

Yes, I shall be wandering out West, as I will have two of my off-spring on the West Coast. One is serving in the USArmy at Fort Lewis in WA.
I am looking forward to future adventures full of inspiration.
Saturday, I begin my Pilates training to be certified. I am so excited about this new chapter in my life.
Now, I shall have more time – although I will always be a Mom, this next phase will be all about nurturing myself after raising my family.
Also, more time for my husband and I – although he still has a full on demanding career in finance. His true passion is in Wine, Skiing, his family and he is an incredibly organized person who inspires many to find optimization in life. His closet is a marvel.
